Latino Social Work Coalition and Scholarship Fund, Inc. Announces the Appointment of Luisa Lopez as President of the Board of Directors

New York, NY (November 2020):

The Latino Social Work Coalition and Scholarship Fund, Inc. (LSWCSF), one of the tri-state area’s premier organizations addressing the needs of Latinx social work students and Latinx social workers in the field, announces the appointment of Luisa Lopez as President of its Board of Directors.

Lopez, who joined the Latino Social Work Coalition Board earlier this year, has been part of the organization for many years, initially as an intern when she was still a student at the New York University Silver School of Social Work, and then supporting the Coalition’s initiatives after graduating, and through her work in New York City government.  She currently serves as Director of Digital Media at the Office of Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer, and also serves on the Associate Board of the East Harlem-based Union Settlement, and the Advisory Board of Dare to Run, Inc., an organization dedicated to electing more women into local, state, and federal office.

“Luisa has been with the Coalition for many years, enriching its programs and services with her extraordinary talents, commitment to our mission, and outstanding leadership abilities,” said President Emeritus Maria Girone. “It is with renewed hopes and determination that the Latino Social Work Coalition looks forward to overcoming the obstacles faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our quest to support and increase the number of Latinx social workers so much needed in our health and other systems of care continues to be our driving force.”

“I am deeply honored to have been appointed as the President of the Latino Social Work Coalition Board of Directors,” said Lopez.  “This is a significant moment in the history of our organization, and I look forward to leveraging our strategic network of organizations, partner schools, and leaders who – along with our team – are all united in the desire to increase awareness of the shortage of Latinx social workers needed to serve in our communities. Understanding the policy and economic challenges facing the social work community in light of the pandemic and its effects on some of our most vulnerable communities will be key as we go forward; I look forward to working closely with our experienced and dedicated Board of Directors in guiding the Coalition through these tumultuous times.”
